Officers from the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) and the National Police announced the arrest at dawn on Tuesday of two of the alleged murderers of Lieutenant Colonel Cesar Augusto Ubri Bocio. One of the men is a corporal in the National Police. The arrest was made after both men violently broke through the gates to the grounds of the Ministry of the Armed Forces.

Yesterday the investigators released DNCD deputy legal adviser Yocasta Martinez Madera, who was with Ubri when he was killed. The alleged killers of the late high-ranking officer, who was the special assistant to DNCD chief Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo, are Corporal Wascar Antonio Cavallo Montero and a civilian, Michael Cury.

The DNCD investigators and the arresting officers from DICRIM seized the murder weapon (a 12 gauge shotgun), an M-16 automatic rifle, a pistol, a revolver and four flak jackets along with other military apparel.

Both suspects are said to have belonged to a gang that stole vehicles to order so that they could be dismantled and sold for parts. Rosado Mateo described how Ubri Bocio went to the area in front of a church in Las Praderas, a few blocks from his house, to meet the DNCD deputy legal advisor there. Martinez Madera arrived five minutes later and got into the vehicle with the officer.

Once they were together, parked outside a small store, she asked him to move a little more forward to avoid being seen by a watchman guarding the church. Once they were stopped, the vehicle used by the assailants went past several times and once they established that the area was deserted, they stopped and told the occupants that it was a robbery. The other person with Cavallo Montero dragged Martinez Montero out of the vehicle violently and she ran off calling for help. When the colonel resisted, Cavallo Montero shot him and took him out of the SUV and threw him to the ground. According to Hoy, Cavallo reportedly fired the extra shots because he was recognized as the son of Police Major Wascar Cavallo Deno.

Rosado Mateo said that the owner of an auto parts store, whose name was not revealed, is being pursued as the person who asked Cavallo Montero and Michael Cury to steal three Toyota SUVs for dismantling and sale of the parts, as reported in Diario Libre.

In the latest on the case, Hoy reports that the license plate that corresponds to the Hilux pickup driven by former police agent Wascar Antonio Cavallo Montero, a key suspect in the murder of personal assistant to the president of the National Drug Control Department, Cavallo Montero belonged to retired General Luis Augusto Feliz Alba. Feliz Alba said he lent it to his daughter. Hoy reports both the retired general and his daughter were arrested for questioning in connection with the crime.

Cavallo Montero had been suspended from the Police in 2006 after being accused of murdering a police officer and robbery, but was reinstated into the force at the recommendation of his father, former DNCD psychologist Wascar Cavallo Deno.
