The Central Electoral Board (JCE) says that 6,416,397 people are registered to vote in the presidential election set for 20 May 2012. This is 300,000 more than in the congressional and municipal election in May 2008. JCE president Roberto Rosario estimated that there could be 370,000 to 375,000 more voters at the close of registration. He said that expatriate voter numbers are also up. He said that 231,000 Dominicans were registered to vote abroad, including 157,000 in the United States and 44,000 in Spain.
