In an interview for El Diario-La Prensa in New York City, President Leonel Fernandez said that his wife, First Lady Margarita Cedeno would make "an excellent Vice President" if chosen for the post. "I think she has the qualities, qualifications and experience to be Vice President of the Republic, but of course that is a decision for the candidate, fellow party member Danilo Medina," said President Fernandez.
Today's page 2 editorial in El Caribe comments that there is no doubt now that Cedeno will be Danilo Medina's running mate. "If Medina does not choose her now... it would be a snub to the President. Fernandez made it clear and knowing his proverbial caution when speaking, things are more than clear, or better said, it looks as the decision has been taken."
A long-time Leonel Fernandez dissident, Danilo Medina is the ruling PLD party political candidate for the 20 May 2012 presidential election. First Lady Margarita Cedeno aspired to be the PLD presidential candidate.
