The Central Electoral Board has detected more than 7,000 lawyers in the DR who are using forged IDs. The president of the Dominican Law Association (Colegio Dominicano de Abogados), Diego Jose Garcia said the situation is serious because lawyers using fake documentation can incur in fraud and irregular representation of clients, as reported in El Caribe. Garcia said that specialists from the JCE are investigating the 47,000 registered lawyers and their IDs, crosschecking the information with files at the Supreme Court of Justice, the Presidential Legal Advisor Office and the Attorney General Office, as quoted in El Caribe.
The crosscheck is aimed at establishing how many titles or decrees issued by the Executive Branch to grant the exequatur, or permission to exercise, of professions have been forged. Garcia said that so far more than 39,000 cases have been researched. The JCE will assist the entity in creating a photographic member list that is legitimate and transparent.
