The Dominican Society of Cardiology says that 38% of the population of the Dominican Republic suffers from high blood pressure, 20% of high cholesterol problems, and high levels of fats in the blood, 14% of glycemia related conditions, and more than 20% is overweight. Society president Dr. Petronila Martinez said that worldwide more than 17 million people die of heart conditions every year. Yesterday, she headed a round of free consultations by 20 physicians organized by the Society at the Avenida de la Salud of the Mirador del Sur Park, on the occasion of World Heart Day.

The doctors advised people to exercise for at least 45 minutes three or four times a week, eat a balanced diet, avoid smoking, control their blood pressure levels and avoid high cholesterol in blood, control glycemia, weight, live an organized stress-free life, eliminating complications.
