The Presidential candidate for the Dominicans for Change Party (DxC) Eduardo Estrella wonders how high-ranking military officials can afford luxury apartments, vacation villas, luxury vehicles and other assets, without having received an inheritance, on a military wage in the Dominican Republic, while most members of the armed forces do not make enough to afford to buy a family home.
As reported in Hoy, Estrella called for a purge of the Police and the Armed Forces to halt impunity and corruption that corrodes those entities. "This country needs order, discipline and authority. People feel everyone is out for their own interests, while impunity and corruption gain more ground every day," he said, as reported in Hoy. Estrella asked why the military has not been able to carry out the purge, find out who is who, who repeatedly commits crimes, when they supposedly have intelligence organizations to investigate their members and not to be gossiping about politics, he complained. He said that most members of the military are honest but its reputation is being trampled by the few.
