A mission from the International Center for the Integrated Management of Hydraulic Resources, part of the United States Army, is in the country to assist the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) in a study of the unexplained phenomenon of rising water levels affecting Lake Enriquillo.

The INDRHI press release says that the commission will be in the area of the lake today and tomorrow, taking measurements for the research. The plan is to identify the source of the rising water and suggest possible solutions. Mission chief Will Logan is an expert in hydrogeology, saline intrusions and coastal systems. The other members of the crew are all specialists, including a technician from NOAA. The team will travel the lake by boat and visit the springs at Villa Jaragua, Las Clavellinas, La Descubierta, Las Barias, Boca de Cachon and La Zurza.
