The Santo Domingo District Attorney, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, has described the sentences handed down by the judges as "unprecedented" in the country. He said that the sentences fulfilled most people's expectations. He said that his office would be making a detailed study of the 600-page decision by the judges in case there is a need to appeal any of the parts. He said that this was the first time anyone has been sentenced to more than 10 years in a money laundering case.

On the other hand, presidential candidate Guillermo Moreno, a former District Attorney, said that the sentence "left a bitter taste because of the impunity and the cover-up." He said that the issue was not the sentencing of the accused, who were all involved in the network of Figueroa Agosto, but rather the ones who were absent from the investigation, the accusations and of course from the sentencing. He asked where were the military officers, police, legislators and government officials that gave him protection and associated with him in his criminal activities for 10 years? He said that the case provided more shadows than light. Homero Figueroa echoed Moreno's stance in his daily "Espejo de papel" editorial in Diario Libre.
