A Dominican fisherman had his hand bitten by a shark as he was fishing in the waters off Jackson Beach in Samana, as reported in Hoy. Leocadio Reyes Sarante (Bochan), 48, usually left his house at around 5am to fish far off the coast.
According to Dr. Willian del Orbe, the surgeon who treated the man at the Pablo A. Paulino Hospital, Reyes Sarante suffered severe lacerations to the tendons in his left hand when possibly a shark attacked him. The fisherman's daughter, Leidy Reyes, told El Nuevo Diario reporters that her father had caught several sharks during the week and shared them with friends and neighbors. His daughter said that the family had alerted that he should desist from his shark-farming activity as it was dangerous.
