The Information Technology director at the Central Electoral Board (JCE) Miguel Angel Garcia has resigned, as reported in Diario Libre. He had been in the post for 12 years. Another 11 employees were also said to have resigned, as confirmed by the spokesman for the organization. The reasons for his resignation are not known. It is dated Monday, which coincides with the announcement by the president of the Dominican Law Association (CARD), Diego Jose Garcia that work carried out by 20 JCE specialists in a purge of the membership archives of the lawyers association had revealed more than 7,000 lawyers with fake IDs in the association's archives.

Diario Libre also reports that Hector Bienvenido Pena Diaz was sent to three months preventive custody for suspected involvement in alterations of civil registry documents in the case of Florida Marlins pitcher Leo Nunez, who registered to play in the MLB with a fake identity.

Yesterday's media reported that JCE judge Eddy Olivares denied the statement by the CARD president who had said that there were 7,000 forged IDs.

The JCE said that 7,365 were incorrect, but 437 of them had been cancelled, 121 had different names for the same person, and 260 were duplicates.

The JCE did confirm that Matias Avelino Castro, mentioned as the mastermind behind the murder of journalist Jose Silvestre, used the identity of a dead nephew, Joaquin Espinal Almeyda. He obtained the document requesting its fast-track issue for an expatriate Dominican.
