The US Embassy has opened a consular agency in Punta Cana to service thousands of US citizens who visit the Punta Cana beach area and US citizens resident in the eastern region. It serves the eastern provinces of La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo and Hato Mayor.
This is the second US consular agency in the country. The first has been open in Puerto Plata for more than 20 years and serves US citizens in the north.
The Punta Cana office will provide services to visiting US citizens who have been hospitalized, victims of crimes, document notarizations and receive requests for passport renewals. The office will also conduct welfare/whereabouts checks for missing citizens, assist qualified destitute US citizens with loans when approved by the US Embassy, visit Americans in prison and report information concerning the deaths of American citizens.
The new Consular Agency is located in Palma Real Shopping Village, in the Bavaro area of the Punta Cana tourism destination.
US citizens make up 35% of the more than 2.5 million annual visitors passing through Punta Cana airport each year.
