The Superintendence of Electricity (SIE) has announced that residential, commercial and industrial electricity rates will stay the same for the month of October. The decision was outlined in SIE resolution Num. 369/2011 that states that imported fuel parameters have been declining over the past few weeks. For example Fuel Oil #6 was down by 3.1%, natural gas was down by nearly US$0.17 per million BTUs, and coal was stable at US$117 a ton. As a result of the indexation process, the electricity rate for October was actually 1.5% less compared to September. The accumulated electricity subsidy from January to September exceeds RD$11 billion, says the government.
