The Ministry of Education has ordered the closure of 12 private schools for their failure to perform up to standards despite having received guidance and advice from the Ministry. All 12 schools are in the National District or in the province of Santo Domingo. The educational authorities took the decision based on the fact that these schools caused "damage to the students, making it difficult for them to enter higher educational institutions and to the public morale of the educational system."

According to Hoy newspaper, the schools affected by the ruling are: Padre Billini, Nuevo Renacer, Acosta, Psicopedagogico Mi Nuevo Retono, Benjamin Franklin, El Nuevo Dia, Manganello, El Mesias and Hosanna located in Santo Domingo East, and Liceo Dominicano, La Castellana and San Judas Tadeo (Ciudad Nueva) in the National District.

Surprisingly, there is also a long list of people who have been barred from working as principals or secretaries at any educational institution.
