28-year old Rafael Enrique Bigai Baez, of the US army was buried yesterday with honors in his home community of El Ingenio in Santiago province. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart decoration posthumously from a US Army committee that attended the burial ceremony. Bigai served in the US army for eight years. "He graduated in chemical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico. He leaves behind a seven-year old daughter and a four-year old son. He volunteered to fight in Afghanistan and died on 23 September when his convoy was ambushed," said Brigadier General Rafael O'Ferrall, Deputy Commanding General for the Joint Task Force-Guantanamo, Cuba who headed the military committee that came for the burial ceremony.
