Police reported the murder of 56-year old Lisandro Gonzalez, an employee at the Pro Piscina swimming pool store in Piantini, an upscale residential and commercial district of Santo Domingo. As reported, Gonzalez was buying fruit for breakfast when he was stabbed and shot at by two men who reportedly tried to rob him, as reported in Hoy. He leaves three children. His son, also called Lisandro Gonzalez, said that his father had been talking with the men at the fruit stand when all of a sudden one stabbed him in the stomach and the other used his father's own gun to fire several shots at him. He said his father had a gun for personal protection.
A fellow worker, Elvis Arias, said that the thieves took Gonzalez's ring and two cell phones. According to versions, Gonzalez had RD$10,000 in his wallet, but this was not taken. His son said he was a victim of random crime and had no problems with anyone.
