Dominican film, La hija natural ("Love Child") by director Leticia Tonos, was accepted as a candidate for the Academy's Best Foreign-Language film last week. It will be one of 60 films that will be evaluated by the Oscars committee. The drama follows a teenage girl who tracks down the father she's never known after her single mother is killed in an accident; he turns out to be a cranky old man who doesn't want to face the ghosts of his past.
Other Dominican films that have been accepted by the Academy in the past are Pasaje de Ida by Agliberto Melendez and Nueba Yol by Angel Muniz.
