Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Morales Troncoso has reminded Ambassador Mosche Sermoneta of Israel that the Dominican Republic is a sovereign country. Earlier this week, Sermoneta expressed disappointment at what he described as preferential treatment by President Leonel Fernandez towards visiting Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas in his stopover in Santo Domingo on a Latin American tour that also took him to El Salvador and Colombia.
Morales Troncoso said that the DR's long-lasting friendship ties with Israel could not limit Dominican relations with other countries. He highlighted the fact that Dominican-Israeli relations dated back to 1948.
