The president of the National Drug Control Department, Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo highlighted the fact that the DR has the highest rate of drug seizures in the Caribbean. He says this indicates that controls are being applied. He attributed the increase in seizures to training and implementation of strategies, outlined by President Leonel Fernandez.
Meanwhile, as reported in Hoy, Chief of the Police Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez described Winston Rizik as a "common criminal," who has been involved in organized crime and drug trafficking for many years. Rizik was arrested on Sunday and accused by the Police of killing and quartering two men in San Cristobal in a drug-trafficking related crime, but was released by the judiciary in San Cristobal for reported lack of incriminatory proof.
