Seven new ambassadors to the Dominican Republic have presented their credentials to President Leonel Fernandez.

The ceremony was held yesterday at the Ambassadors Hall of the Presidential Palace.

The ambassadors:

Cuba. Alexis Bandrich Vega. Previously he was counselor at the Cuban Embassy in Brazil.

Germany. Thomas C. Bruns. Bruns served as his country's ambassador in Brunei for three years prior to being appointed to the Dominican Republic.

France. Blandine Kreiss. Prior to her appointment she served as her country's ambassador in Belize.

Czech Republic. Edita Hrda. She formerly served as her country's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Paraguay. Luis Domingo Laino Guanes. He previously served as his country's ambassador in Cuba.

Sweden. Claes Hammar. Hammar, who is also the ambassador to Haiti, was one of the first diplomats to confirm that the cholera strain in Haiti that has affected both Haiti and the DR was brought by Nepalese soldiers serving in the UN Minustah force. Thailand. Udomphol Ninnad. Former ambassador in Peru.

President Fernandez was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Morales Troncoso and Deputy Minister Jose Manuel Trullols.
