The District Attorney of the National District has given up on presenting two witnesses in the trial against nine alleged hired killers who worked for Puerto Rican capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto because of harassment and threats against them.

At the same time a witness had to move house and one, a Chinese national, has left the country. Prosecutors Candida Ramos, Denny Silvestre Zorilla and Isidro Vasquez Pena described this situation yesterday at the Fourth Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of the First Instance of the National District. Chinese citizen Patrick Justine Bueno Fuo had to leave the country, while Jose Ramon Almonte, who lived in Ensanche Quisqueya, had to move house following threats made by the accused, according to the prosecutors' statements.

Since the move, the authorities have been unable to locate Almonte at his new address, despite efforts by the District Attorney, with the help of Dintel. "They realize that they are not going to come because there is no safety in making a statement," said the prosecutors. They fear that after the threats received, there is no argument if something happens after testifying against the defendants. Seven witnesses were due to have testified in the courtroom yesterday, of which the District Attorney had withdrawn three, which added to another three make seven. These are the wife of Winston Antonio Rodriguez Tavarez, the wife of Gian Enrique Rojas Matos and the mother of Rojas Matos.

The prosecutors suggested that in principle they should have been presented but when they were supposed to give their statements in the session held last Wednesday, they did not appear. Also on the witness list were Patrick Justine Bueno Kuo, Ronny Jodenny Perez Jerez, Sol Threeny Valera Ventura, and Jose Ramon Almonte. The prosecutors who are arguing the case said that they had contacted Perez and Valera's parents, who told them that they were not going to testify because of the threats they had received.
