The State Run Electric Companies (CDEEE) is denying that a RD$10 million house in Jarabacoa is being built as a vacation home for CDEEE administrators. They claim that when the current administration took office in 2004 they were forced to continue the contract to build the house, which had been signed by the previous administration. That particular contract was signed eight weeks before the end of the previous administration. The CDEEE also points out that three months ago they rescinded a RD$4.9 million contract that the former head of the CDEEE, engineer Cesar Sanchez had with architect Darina Custodio for breach of contract. Diario Libre points out that the first phase of construction was to take approximately eight weeks, the amount of time left before the change of government. For this, Custodio's firm received an advance payment of 75% on the contract, or the cash value of RD$3.7 million. The CDEEE denies that the actual cost of the house is around RD$25 million, saying that the government has owned that particular property for decades and that it was remodeled in the 1996-2000 period, the first Fernandez administration.
