Speaking at the 12th Biarritz Forum in Santo Domingo, President Michel Martelly of Haiti said that relations between his country and the Dominican Republic were better than ever. Martelly told representatives from 30 countries and over two hundred institutions from Latin America and Europe that Haiti was ready for tourism. He stressed, however, the need for hotels, roads, industries and airports. During his presentation, he declared that Haiti was open for business and provided guarantees for security and protection of investments, as reported in Haitilibre.com

Haiti was a major Caribbean tourism destination in the 1970s, prior to the political turbulence that led to the collapse of the industry.

Martelly was speaking at the closing ceremony of the forum held at the Jaragua Renaissance hotel.
