On an unprecedented roll, Dominican Nelson Cruz's batting that has been decisive in the Texas Rangers getting a ticket to play the MLB World Series, was recognized when he was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award for the American League. In the Saturday game, when Teas defeated the Detroit Tigers 15-5, Cruz hit his sixth home run, and led the League in 13 RBIs, both major league records for a postseason series. The only other players with five homers in a single postseason series were Reggie Jackson, Ken Griffey Jr., Juan Gonzalez and Chase Utley.
The previous RBI record was 12 by Bobby Richardson and John Valentin.
