The former President of Peru, Alan Garcia, admitted to a court in Lima that he had met twice with the Dominican businessman Fortunato Canaan, who has been tied to the irregular concession of oil exploration leases as well as the famous case of telephone espionage known in Peru as "Petroaudios."
Garcia appeared before the court as a witness in regard to the illegal interception of phone calls from the directors of the company known as Business Track, carried out by members of the Peruvian Navy in 2008. Garcia limited his comments to saying that he received Canaan in the Palace of Government "just as he did 1,200 other businessmen."
