A maritime unit of the Police of Puerto Rico arrested illegal Dominican boat crew that attempted to smuggle 102 kilos of cocaine into Puerto Rico. The ship was detected by the FURA unit of the Police at around 10:30pm yesterday, near Cabo Rojo in Puerto Rico. On board was 60-year old Rafael Almeida Martinez and 48-year old Orlando De Jesus Salvador, said to be from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The drugs were found hidden in a compartment, as reported Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Rosado Morales, director of FURA.
El Nuevo Dia of Puerto Rico says the drugs have a market value of US$2.4 million. The police alerted the Border Patrol of the finding.
As reported, so far this year, FURA has seized 1,285 kilos of drugs.
