Three people were injured when the second-floor of a 500-year old two-story dwelling on Arzobispo Merino Street on the corner of General Gregorio Luperon Street near Casa Velazquez in the Colonial City collapsed yesterday. On 25 September, City authorities said that the deteriorated state of more than 30 houses and buildings in the Colonial City, which was declared a UNESCO world cultural heritage site in 1990, posed a threat to the public. The city authority announced that these structures could be declared to be in a state of "public danger" and the occupants would be evicted.

The injured were 42-year old Luis Abreu, who suffered a left foot fracture; and sisters 38-year old Midorka and 34-year old Guillermina Torres, who both suffered leg fractures, as reported in El Caribe and Diario Libre. Workers at a nearby construction site were the first to assist the injured, and a firefighters unit was first on the scene to take the injured to the Dario Contreras trauma center.
