A Puerto Rican Police maritime unit has arrested an illegal Dominican boat crew that was attempting to smuggle 102 kilos of cocaine into Puerto Rico. The ship was detected by a Police FURA unit at around 10:30pm, near Cabo Rojo in Puerto Rico. The men on board have been named as 60-year old Rafael Almeida Martinez and 48-year old Orlando De Jesus Salvador, said to be from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The drugs were found hidden in a compartment, reported FURA director Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Rosado Morales.
El Nuevo Dia of Puerto Rico says the drugs have a market value of US$2.4 million. The police informed the Border Patrol of the finding. As reported, FURA has seized 1,285 kilos of drugs so far this year.
