Last night the Dominican Winter League Baseball Championship continued with victories for the Gigantes del Cibao, the Leones del Escogido and the Estrellas Orientales. For the Gigantes, this was their first victory, a 6-5 win over the Toros del Este in La Romana. The Gigantes had to hold off a late rally by the Toros to win this one.
In Santiago, the Leones came to visit the Aguilas and it was not a happy meeting since the visiting team came away with a whopping 13-3 beating of the local heroes. Brett Wallace decided the game in the first inning with a tremendous homerun with two on base to give the Leones del Escogido a 3-0 lead that was never overtaken.
In a night when all of the visiting teams were able to win, the Estrellas Orientales defeated the Tigres del Licey. The final 6-2 score reflects a slight attempt by the Blues to come back in the ninth inning.
