Delays in the repairs of the road leading to the Duquesa municipal dump have resulted in large piles of garbage accumulating in Santo Domingo neighborhoods. Trucks have had difficulties reaching the municipal dump, while others are picking up garbage but dumping it at the point where the road turns bad, as reported in Diario Libre.
Recent rains have caused mud to pile up, which has impeded the trucks from reaching the dump.
Miguel Echavarria, Santo Domingo North Municipality's Urban Cleansing director said the road would be operational by 27 October. His counterpart for Santo Domingo East, Rafael Hilario Medina, nevertheless, admitted the delay is causing garbage to accumulate in the city, where in many areas trucks have not picked up the loads for a week.
