Dominican athletes competing in the Pan-American Games in Mexico celebrated yesterday after winning six medals n two silvers and four bronzes.
In table tennis, Xue Wu lost in the finals to Zhang Mo, of Canada. Ju Lin did not fulfill his ambition to become the only Dominican athlete to win gold in three Pan Am Games. He received a bronze. The DR, nevertheless, was the winner of the team gold medal in table tennis.
In wrestling, Angelo Mota Brea had to settle for silver in the 66-kilo category. Brea had lost the gold medal to Cuba in the Santo Domingo 2003 Pan-Ams, and then again in Rio de Janeiro 2007.
The bronze medalists were Jose Arias in 84 kilos wrestling, Francisco Encarnacion in 55 kilos and Ramon Garcia in 120 kilos.
On the downside, the Dominican baseball team took a bad beating from the US team, losing 20-2. The Dominican volleyball team lost 3-1 to the US, and will thus not be a medalist in the tournament.
