The DR is in tenth place on the medals list at the Pan American Games under way in Mexico, after wrestler Juan Rubelin Ramirez Beltre defeated the favorite, Obenson Blanc of the United States in the 55-kilogram category. This is the first time he has won a medal at an international event. He said his determination made the difference and that he had competed and lost to Blanc at a previous international event. The match ended 3-1.
The DR is ranked tenth after winning 17 medals at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan Am Games: 4 gold, 2 silver and 11 bronze.
