A group of 19 members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESA) working at the Aeropuerto Internacional La Isabela (El Higuero), where an aircraft was stolen in the early hours of Sunday morning are under investigation. The group was on duty in the early hours of the morning in which the robbery of the airplane parked at a hangar belonging to the Puntacana Group took place.
Airport sector representatives fear that the DR will be sanctioned by the United States Transportation Security Agency (TSA) because of the ease with which controls are being violated at the country's airports. During the next few hours they expect the arrival of several TSA technicians to take part in the investigations into the robbery. Reports say that the TSA, after being informed of the robbery, along with aeronautical institutions in other countries, became interested in helping the Dominican Republic locate the twin-engine plane. Despite the fact that the airport is operated under a concession, Aerodom has chosen not to comment on the case, while the consortium's communications director said that this is a security issue and not part of their portfolio as administrators.
Airport sources speaking to reporters attributed the robbery to a deficient security system that is CESA's responsibility, some even going as far as to say that there is no way of getting a plane out of an airport without somebody knowing about it.
Rafael Rosario, the owner of the Caribair airline, said that the aircraft, a twin turbo-prop Beechcraft Kingair B-200, with tail number N871C and capacity for nine passengers was filled with fuel that had been taken from a Caribair plane and carried in a golf cart that belongs to the same company.
