A substitute judge in La Altagracia, Sandy Ramirez, has ordered the release of Winston Rizik Rodriguez (El Gallero) arrested on 14 October for his connection with the murder of two men in a cockfighting arena parking lot, as reported in Diario Libre. The judge said there was not sufficient evidence to incriminate the accused. The prosecutors had asked for a year preventive custody.
As reported, Rizik Rodriguez had been arrested in Haina during investigations into the death of two men whose bodies were found on 11 September on the Palenque highway in San Cristobal. He was released by San Cristobal prosecutor Faustino Pulinario Romero for lack of evidence. He has been requested in extradition to the United States on drug trafficking charges, but the request was rejected by the Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.
