President Leonel Fernandez signed the National Budget into law yesterday. Law 294-11 is for RD$430,814,579 billion. It is the first time in modern history that the budget has been passed two months before it is due to be implemented. Criticism from several quarters suggests that it has issues that could be judicially contested. However, President Leonel Fernandez is said to have the last say in the new Constitutional Court that would review any disputes. The bill was fast-tracked through the Senate and then the Chamber of Deputies, both houses where the ruling PLD party holds the majority.
