17-year old Luguelin Santos was the talk of the track and field events at the Guadalajara Pan Am Games after winning the silver medal in the 400m with a 44.71 time on 26 October. His time places him sixth on the all-time world junior lists, only behind great runners Steve Lewis, Kirani James, Hamdan Odha Al Bishi, Lashawn Meritt and Darrell Robinson. Analysts mention it was achieved at altitude, making it more remarkable, and he is expected to win the 400m at the World Juniors next year and to make the London Olympics final. Santos is a gold medalist at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
