Customs hauls in US$625,000 from traveler

Dominican Customs (DGA) agents have intercepted a woman coming from New York with US$625,000 in undeclared funds that she was trying to bring into the country. The seizure took place at the Santiago International Airport (STI). The woman, Yasmin Altagracia Garcia de Nunez, arrived on Jet Blue flight 841 without telling Customs authorities that she was carrying that sum of dollars as required by the law, which states that all amounts over US$10,000 must be declared to the authorities. The money was in packages of $10, $20, $50 and $100 dollar bills. The X-ray machine technicians spotted the money and immediately arrested the woman who has a Dominican "cedula" and a passport issued in New York.
