Speaking prior to presentations of 2012 presidential candidates at the Hotel Jaragua yesterday, the president of the Dominican Republic Industries Association Ligia Bonetti called for an end to the political practices that put productive sectors at a disadvantage. She urged "breaking the political patronage culture that is drowning us and leads us to vote for those that give us handouts".

She called for a new focus on a political model that forces our leaders to discuss ideas, and build clear proposals and that there must be accountability. She said the industrial sector does not want crutches but rather a model that is stimulates production.

She called for a fair taxation system, access to financing for productive sectors, resolving the quality and cost of power and rules of the game that are not for 24 hours or a month or a year, but that are permanent.

She said that the government revenues would grow in proportion to companies growing and exports increasing. She also called for modernizing labor legislation to stimulate formal jobs. She called for strengthening of government institutions, and defending productive sectors that now face unfair competition by importers as well as stimulating exports.

She called for the end of placing obstacles to those who create the jobs and generate wealth.
