The Caucedo Multi-Modal Port executives say that a drive to make the Dominican Republic more competitive on the world market of logistics is under way. The company recently announced the Caucedo Logistics Center, which will involve a US$15 million investment in the second phase of the modernization of Port Caucedo. Samuel Conde and Teddy Heinsen talked to Juan Guilliani Cury and reporters from Listin Diario about the new center. The total investment in Caucedo began with US$300 million (US$200 in financing and US$100 from local and international backers). While this was going on, Panama was investing US$3.1 billion to widen the canal. The builders of Caucedo knew this and designed the port facility to handle what are known as "post-Panamax" ships, which means ships that were too big to go through the Panama Canal today.

Heinsen pointed out that 70% of the traffic that goes through the canal is going either to or from the United States and the Dominican Republic is perfectly located, and Caucedo will be fully prepared to handle the increased traffic from South America and from the Far East. At the present time it is known as the sixth fastest growing freight terminal in the world, it is the fastest in the Caribbean and is ranked among the 100 best of the world.
