View Full Version : Metro gulps 47% of government investment in 2012

The second line of the Metro of Santo Domingo has been assigned RD$12.9 billion, and is the top priority for public works in the transport sector. The investment, the largest made by the government during 2012, will eat up 47% of all the funds allocated for infrastructure investments in 2012, as reported in Hoy.

Hoy says the figures are contained in the Investment Plan 2012 sent to the Senate by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, engineer Juan Temistocles Montas.

Other planned large investments scheduled for 2012 are:

North-South Highway Connection improvements RD$1.28 billion
Boulevard Turistico del Norte (Puerto Plata-Sabaneta de Yasica) RD$1.18 billion
Corredor Duarte (in Santo Domingo) RD$900 million
Autopista del Coral (La Romana-Punta Cana) RD$900 million.
Reconstruction Bavaro-Uvero Alto-Miches-Sabana de la Mar and construction of the Sabana de la Mar port RD$883.6 million.
Santiago province roadworks RD$800 million
Construction of the intelligent traffic control system in Santo Domingo RD$800 million
Paving of streets in Duarte province RD$700 million

The government allocated RD$4.9 billion + RD$1.3 billion for the construction of 12,334 classrooms nationwide, in addition to US$2.95 billion at the UASD university.
