Franklin Frias, head of information technology at the JCE, says he will not resign. Opposition presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia has already expressed doubts about his work, but JCE president Roberto Rosario is backing Frias. Rosario says the PRD political party has to formally call for his resignation. The PRD candidate and the president of the PRD party, Miguel Vargas, have not met for several months. Vargas challenged Mejia for the presidential candidacy in the PRD primaries.

As reported in Listin Diario, the IT director said he would not resign because if he did so his reputation would be affected. He said it would be tantamount to accepting that he has done something wrong. In an interview with the newspaper, Frias said there was no reason for him to resign, when all he has done is to work honestly.

The controversy hit the media after Miguel Angel Garcia, chief of IT at the JCE, resigned alleging that some sectors wanted to impose Frias. Garcia had entered the JCE when Frias was disputed in 2003 by the political parties in the lead-up to the 2004 Presidential Election.
