Apparently due to structural problems, a four-floor 12-apartment building under construction at Octavio Mejia Ricart in the Ensanche Ozama collapsed on Saturday evening. There were no casualties, but the collapse caused considerable damage to the neighboring house. Two construction workers, Haitian Eugenio Jose Almonte and Dominican Maximo Rosario were having dinner outside of the building when it collapsed. A neighbor said that the owners knew it had structural problems and that construction had been halted. The collapse also damaged two vehicles that were parked in the neighboring house. The Ministry of Public Works is investigating the case. Listin Diario reports that the construction, which had been stopped for six years, was resumed seven months ago.

Hoy reports that the construction had been subject to a judicial process after the owners accused the engineer in charge of the building of scamming them with RD$12 million provided for the construction.
