Intelligence officers at the Puerto Plata Port intercepted a shipment of several tons of copper wiring intended for export to Miami, Florida last night, as reported in El Nacional. The exporters had forged paperwork to indicate that it was used cloth and other products manufactured at a local free zone, as reported in El Nacional. Copper exports from the Dominican Republic are banned. The shipment was registered in the name of Andres Rodriguez and would have been shipped by Antillana Dominicana on board their Caribbean Travel ship.
Officers of the Department detected the shipment around 10pm, just minutes before the ship was due to leave for Florida.
