The Sur Futuro Foundation has been in existence for 10 years and during this time it has received RD$1.1 billion in donations from several national and international sources. During this time it has benefitted 337,000 people in a wide range of projects. The president of the foundation, Melba Segura de Grullon was the principal guest at the Corripio Communications Group luncheon event. She talked about the projects that have benefited the people, the environment and the natural resources of the region. There are also projects that assist with education, health, infrastructure, electricity and even micro-credit. The foundation has produced 15 million seedlings for reforestation and replanted 443,000 tareas, (nearly 28,000 hectares) and has created 500 model farms, eight irrigation systems and eleven greenhouses, enabling the sustainable management of 1,281 farms with 166,829 tareas. The very long list of accomplishments has succeeded in reducing poverty levels in the upper valleys of the area by 25%, and improved people's access to health care and prevention by a significant margin.
