Eduardo Estrella, presidential candidate for the minority party Partido Dominicanos por el Cambio (DxC), has urged the authorities to stop tightening the screws on the people. He said the government is lying to the people and trying to blame the IMF, when the reality is that bad management and permanent wasteful spending by the government is what has led to the present difficulties in maintaining the Stand-by arrangement with the IMF.
As reported in Diario Libre, he said that the incapacity of the authorities could not translate into excess costs for local production, making consumer products more expensive and the country less competitive.
