The latest theft making front-page news involves the robbery of the landing lights from the Maria Montez International Airport in Barahona. Night flights will no longer be possible at that terminal, as reported in Hoy. The director of Specialized Airport Security (CESA), Brigadier General Zenon Padilla Alcantara has ordered an investigation into the security breach at the airport to establish whether there had been complicity between the thieves and the security forces. Reportedly some 25 military personnel are on duty at the airport. The airport has a minimum movement of domestic flights, most during the day.
