The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has fired Judge Franklin Rosa of the Municipal Electoral Board of Santiago (JME), replacing him with a lawyer, Alberto Hernandez. This is seen as a move that might deepen the differences between the political delegates and the local civil society with election organization. The JCE decided to dismiss Rosa, who had served on the local board for 10 years, from the organization by means of Resolution 12/2011, according to the president of the Santiago Electoral Board, Haime Tomas Frias Carela.

A report by the JCE indicates that Rosa's substitution is a routine part of the process of assembling the 44 local election boards in the country. Yesterday, the PRD delegate to the Santiago Electoral Board, Wilson Aleman, warned that the substitution of any of the judges was not advisable, because it breaks the consensus reached on 24 March. In the meantime, Judge Nicolas Cantizano also said that he was not in agreement with the dismissal of any of the judges on the local board and threatened to resign. For his part, the president of the board, Haime Tomas Frias Carela explained that these changes were normal and there is nothing to worry about in that regard. He added that they would meet with the new judge, Alberto Hernandez, as soon as he is sworn in.
