President Leonel Fernandez decorated actors Danny Glover and Geraldine Chaplin at the Presidential Palace yesterday. They received the Heraldic Order of Christopher Columbus in the rank of Knight during an event held at the Ambassadors Hall.
During the event, President Fernandez also decorated Dominican documentary-maker Agilberto Melendez with the order of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella in the rank of Official, the highest award in the country. Glover and Chaplin are in the Dominican Republic to attend the fifth International Global Foundation Film Festival. "I am very moved. I do not deserve the award, but I am not returning it," said Chaplin upon receiving the decoration. Melendez said he was honored to receive the award at the same time as Glover and Chaplin. The film festival continues this weekend nationwide.
