Plaza Guibia inaugurated

President Leonel Fernandez attended the remodeling of Plaza Guibia yesterday. Before the Ozama River was polluted and sewage dumping into the Malecon, this was Santo Domingo's city beach. Mayor Roberto Salcedo says there is now free wi-fi Internet available at the plaza, a children's play area, a food court and a large gym section with exercise equipment, all in the open air. The park covers an area of 13,497 square meters. During the inaugural ceremony, Salcedo said that the city government was working on a project that will enable Dominicans to swim in Guibia beach again. He promised the completion of the Parque Eugenio Maria de Hostos by March 2012.
