A recent Hamilton Campaigns poll shows PLD presidential candidate Danilo Medina leading against opposition party candidate Hipolito Mejia of the PRD with a 1% margin. Medina received 46% preference, while former President Mejia received 45%. The poll was conducted from 1-6 September, before Danilo Medina announced that First Lady Margarita Cedeno would be his running mate. In the poll, which was not released until 13 November, 58% of those surveyed favored the First Lady being chosen by Danilo Medina on the grounds that it would help his aspirations.
Following the announcement, the most recent poll, by Zogby, showed that Medina was lagging behind Mejia.
The Hamilton Campaign says that the weakest areas of the Fernandez administration include their track record in combating crime, followed by education and unemployment.
