A Westerville North High School student who stripped naked, lubed his body in oil and ran amok through the school commons during lunch yesterday was arrested after police twice zapped him with a Taser.
"It just seemed like a good idea at the time," Taylor C. Killian, 18, told police later, said Westerville Lt. John Petrozzi.
It was right about noon when a clothed Killian, who made his school's honor roll in each of three grading periods during the 2005-06 school year, strolled into a bathroom near the crowded commons.
He removed his clothes, smeared grapeseed oil on himself and ran into the lunch crowd, police said.
His appearance caused pandemonium in the school, as students unsure of what was happening ran and screamed, police said. When a school administrator confronted him, Killian made sexual gestures and ran, continuing to chase students.
By then, school resource Officer Doug Staysniak was pursuing Killian, ordering him to stop and trying unsuccessfully to grab the slippery student, police said.
When Killian ran toward a group of students huddled in a corner, Staysniak fired his Taser. Killian was zapped once, tried to get up, and was given a second jolt of electricity, Petrozzi said.
He then complied, and teachers moved partitions around him to hide him from the other students.
"His exposure, no pun intended, was very limited once he was gotten under control," Petrozzi said.
The entire incident lasted three or four minutes, police said.
Killian was taken to the hospital to have the Taser prongs removed, then booked and taken to the Delaware County jail.
He is charged with inducing panic, public indecency, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Greg Viebranz, a school district spokesman, said Killian will be disciplined. He said school for the 1,600 students continued as usual after the disruption.
Petrozzi said police don't think that drugs or alcohol were involved. He credited police and school staff with keeping a lid on the incident.
"This had the potential to get very much out of control," Petrozzi said. "He certainly created quite a bit of emotional trauma and stress.
"He's not offered any apology. He said he was looking to create some excitement and get an adrenaline rush.
"Hindsight being 20/20," Petrozzi said, Killian "should have ate a burger instead. Put a jalapenojavascript:void(0)
